There are several important questions to keep in mind when hiring a qualified individual to be the next asset to your team or a partner in your staffing agency! Asking the right questions is absolutely crucial considering that you only have a few minutes to determine whether that person has a good attitude, is qualified for the position, and if they could be a good fit for your team – so choose your questions wisely. Although it can be hard to tell in such a short amount of time if this candidate is the one, asking the right questions can reveal important information that will make choosing the right candidate much easier! Here are a few great questions to ask to narrow down your list of candidates to one that will bring success to the company:

Ask For General Background Information

This question is the basic question for the employer to get to know some of the candidates work background and skill sets that he/she has from prior experience. It gives the candidate a chance to introduce himself or herself, and will give a lasting first impression to the employer.

What Attracted You To This Company

This is a question that will reveal whether or not the applicant is truly passionate about what the company does and its main goals within the workplace. Every employer wants to hire someone who believes in what the company stands for, and will work towards reaching ultimate goals of success for that particular company. Watching how enthusiastically the candidate answers this question will also say a lot about how they see themselves impacting the company!

Conflict and Solution

This question is generally based on scenarios where the job applicant is asked to talk about a time where he or she faced a problem, and how they solved it. This question will allow the employer to evaluate how well the applicant’s problem skills are aligned with having an overall good work ethic! Many times candidates with less experience, but extremely strong problem-solving skills will be more qualified than someone who has a poor judgment yet has years of experience. In any job, employers want workers who have the ability to become self-sufficient without constantly relying on others to solve their problems.

Career Development Question

A question that highlights where the job candidates see themselves a few years from now can give great insight on their goals and work ethic. The employer can see how motivated he/she is and if they seek long-term growth within the company. Seeking a goal-oriented individual is an important factor if you are looking to add a driven individual to your team!

Teamwork Related Question

Questions such as “Tell me about a time where you realized a teammate wasn’t doing their assigned tasks, and how did you deal with it?” will determine the personality type of the person that you are interviewing. While a tough question, this question reveals two things about the candidate: How well they work with others, and how they deal with confrontations. These are both important things to know when hiring a new employee. It will also show if the candidate is willing to work beyond what is asked of them if necessary, making them a team player!
